Wedding Day Survival Kit
No matter how meticulously you've planned your wedding day, the unexpected can (and often does!) happen. From a dress that needs a quick fix to a sudden headache, a ‘survival kit’ can save the day! But what exactly should go into this emergency stash? Here’s our must-have list.
Must-Have Items!
Whether you’re the bride, groom, or part of the bridal party, here’s the absolute bare essentials!
First-Aid:
Weddings are long, and it’s likely that someone will get a headache or those fabulous but less-than-comfy shoes will start wreaking a bit of havoc!. So, pack items like pain relievers, antacids and blister patches. And throw in a couple of plasters for the inevitable heel rubs or minor cuts.
Wardrobe Fixes:
A wedding dress malfunction or a missing button is also probably on the cards. Include safety pins, fashion tape, a small sewing kit with matching thread (just in case), and a few spare buttons.
Beauty and Grooming Touch-Ups:
After hours of smiles, hugs, and kisses, even the most flawless makeup can wear off. Keep some essentials handy: lipstick, compact powder, mascara, and a small mirror for quick touch-ups throughout the day. Don’t forget deodorant, travel-sized hairspray and we love mini wipes - for those last-minute freshen-ups.
Comfort First:
Weddings are marathons, not sprints. You’ll need sustenance! Pack a couple of snacks like granola bars or fruit to keep your energy up, and remember to hydrate with some bottled water. If you’ve got a long day ahead in heels, having a pair of flats or roll-up shoes will be a blessing by the end of the night.
Unexpected Emergencies:
No one plans for spills, but they happen. Stain remover pens are a must-have for dealing with those accidental wine or makeup mishaps. While you’re at it, add some extra stockings or tights to your kit, as well as a lint roller to keep your outfits looking spotless.
Bride-Specific Survival Kit Additions
As the bride, you’ll be the star of the show, and let’s face it—your outfit is the most elaborate. Here are a few extras just for you:
Veil Weights:
If your ceremony or photos are outdoors, strong winds can be the enemy of a beautifully placed veil. Veil weights (small magnetic clips) will ensure it stays perfectly in place without you having to fuss with it.
Nail Kit:
Chipped nails or broken polish just won’t do on your big day. Keep a nail file, clear polish, and nail glue in your kit so you can quickly fix any nail emergencies before anyone notices.
Perfume or Body Mist:
After a day of mingling and dancing, it’s nice to freshen up a bit. A small bottle of your favourite perfume or a body mist will keep you feeling (and smelling) fresh all day long.
Groom-Specific Survival Kit Additions
Grooms might not have to worry about dresses or veils, but there are still a few items they should consider packing:
Spare Cufflinks or Buttons:
Wardrobe malfunctions aren’t exclusive to brides! A missing cufflink or popped button can quickly turn into a small crisis. Pack some spares - just in case!
Little Touch-Up’sl:
Not just reserved for the bride. Take a moment to fix your hair and freshen up with a comb, hairspray or gel and the trusty little pack of wet wipes. And don’t forget a quick squirt of cologne. An atomiser is a great way to keep the bulk down in your survival kit.
Mini Lint Brush:
Lint has a magical way of appearing on suits at the worst times. A pocket-sized lint brush will help keep your suit looking pristine all day.
Bonus Items for the Bridal Party and Guests
The bridal party and VIP guests might also need a few things to get through the day as well. Here's some little added extra's:
Mints:
Keep everyone’s breath fresh for all the photos and conversations by having mints or chewing gum on hand.
Phone Chargers:
A wedding day means lots of photos, and phones die fast. Pack a few portable chargers to avoid anyone’s phone running out of juice before the big moments are captured.
Emergency Cash:
You never know when someone might need a bit of extra cash for a taxi, forgotten item, or tip. Having a bit of emergency cash available will make sure no one’s scrambling at the last minute.
While no one wants to think about things going wrong on their wedding day, being prepared with a survival kit means that any hiccups can be easily handled. So, pack your kit, stash it with someone you trust, and focus on enjoying your big day without worrying about the little things. After all, it’s the start of your happily ever after - don’t let a broken button or a blister steal the spotlight!
